Somaliland: Possible Preliminary Meeting In Kenya Between Somaliland & Somalia
Informed sources within the Somaliland government have indicated that there is the possibility of preliminary talks between Somaliland and Somalia in Kenya, in an effort to restart the failed meetings between the two parties.
However, given the current frosty relationship between Kenya and the federal administration in Mogadishu, it is highly unlikely that the Somalia would agree to any talks taking place in Kenya.
The sources indicate that the current visit to Kenya, by the Somaliland Foreign Minister, Yasin Haji Mohamud Hir “Faratoon”, who has already met with members of the Kenyan cabinet, including the Trade Minister, Peter Munya and other senior Kenyan officials, could be part of an effort to resume talks between Hargeisa and Mogadishu.
Once again, this is not likely, as Somaliland and Kenya are currently engaged in efforts to strengthen the ties between Hargeisa and Nairobi, and would not welcome the distraction of a third party involvement.
The Somaliland Foreign Minister has already met with the IGAD Executive Secretary, Ambassador Mahboub Maallim, to discuss the forthcoming parliamentary and local council elections scheduled for the end of this year and other issues pertaining to the Horn of Africa.

Why Indigenous Seeds matter?
Seed is the most important input in agriculture and is the most precious thing to a farmer. Our indigenous seeds are sustainable, but are lost due to the import of hybrid seeds which are not sustainable. The indigenous seeds can be sustained for thousand years because our local farmers know how to select, collect, keep and store it.
Many farmers in Somaliland are rejecting modern farming technology of farming and are resorting to traditional methods of farming for better yield. The modern technology is characterized by the use of hybrid varieties, frequent applications of fertilizer and pesticides.
However, they are searching for indigenous varietal seeds because they are perfectly adapted to extreme changes in our climate avoiding to total dependence on hybrid seeds.
We have many indigenous varieties of sorghum, and maize and each one of them has a particular quality, trait, productivity and adaptability to the environment. Some of these varieties are resistant to drought, salt, water logging, and local diseases. We need to conserve themfor future use.
Crop yields are relatively low compared to other developing countries with similar climatic conditions. One of the main factors of low productionis among others attributed to imported hybrid seeds which are not resistant to local environmental conditions for instances drought, salt, water logging, and local diseases.
To this end, Somaseed is a National Project funded by FAO and EUaiming to improve genetic quality of indigenous seeds in Somaliland and also to enhance the capacity of the Ministry of Agriculture and farmers’ organizations. Through the program, their skills will be upgraded to handle plant testing, plant breeding, and basic seed production and establishing a seed certification system. This will diversify the seed market in Somaliland and make locally produced improved and certified seeds available to farmers. In turn, this will reduce dependency on imports and responds to both the demand of the agriculture sector and emergency situations. The activities of the project is included indigenous Seed sourcing from the local farms and circulating the seeds among the farmers to grow and multiply. In this way, the project have managed to re-introduce over thirty indigenous varieties of cereal and pulses. But it is not about the indigenous seed of Somaliland or about the survival of sustainable agriculture systems with the knowledge of over one thousand years. It is about a global phenomenon taking place where non sustainable system systematically destroys a sustainable one where short term profit has the power to overwhelm common sense and the consciousness of many millions, where progress is not progress but the wanton destruction of an ecosystem and environment.
We will never be able to produce more if we do not begin to repair the environmental damage taking place in our environment. We will lose not only our cultural identity but our fundamental right to truly sustainable system of food security.

The Weak FGS Severs Diplomatic Ties With Guinea Over Somaliland
The weak federal government in Mogadishu has decided to sever diplomatic ties with the Republic of Guinea as a direct result of the visit to that country by the President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, at the invitation of Conakry.
President Muse Bihi Abdi and his delegation arrived in Guinea on a two day visit, and the federal entity in Mogadishu, upset at the invitation and the welcome afforded the Somaliland delegation began an offensive to counter the visit.
It has been reported that the FGS “ambassador” to the EU was dispatched to West Africa to try and forestall any further visits in the region by the Somaliland delegation. This has yet to produce any results.
Furthermore, the severing of diplomatic ties with the Republic of Guinea over an issue that is entirely in the prerogative of Conakry, makes the politicians in Mogadishu look petulant and immature.
The threat by Mogadishu to any nations engaging Somaliland with the severing of diplomatic ties seems hollow, since most countries in the world deal with Somaliland as a de-facto state, and the “unity and sovereignty of the territory of Somalia” issue has to all intent and purpose become defunct after the failure of the union in 1991.
The FGS in Mogadishu has as much authority over Somaliland, as we on earth have over the other planets in the solar system!
If the weak FGS in Mogadishu wants to be taken serious, then they must engage the original partner of the 1960 union which helped to create the defunct Somali Republic, and that is Somaliland.

Somaliland Must Prepare for War With Somalia
United Nations is already undermined by powerful countries. International laws are weakened and not as effective as before. Military aggressions and violations are on the rise. Countries are threatened or invaded just because of their natural resources or of their sovereignty. This is the current appalling order of the world.
In the case of Africa, borders are based on territory, not on tribal lineage. The independence and diplomatic recognition of each African country is based on its colonial territorial borders. Somaliland is not an exception and has the right to be sovereign nation as any other African country. Somaliland sovereignty (achieved on 26 June, 1960) is based on its colonial borders inherited from Somaliland British Protectorate while Somalia’s sovereignty (achieved on July 1, 1960) is based on its colonial borders inherited from Italy.
Somaliland is a peace loving country and wants to have good relations and interactions with its neighbors. But, Somalia, which committed all kinds of atrocities in Somaliland in the 1980s, is again raising its ugly head to threaten Somaliland sovereignty and existence. There is only one thing that counts in today’s world for survival: It is military might or power. Somaliland should focus on building best and strongest military in the Horn of Africa to defeat its sworn enemies surrounding it.
Most of the available resources of Somaliland Republic including human resource must be allocated to the military. Somaliland military must have the best training and the best available military hardware to easily defeat Somalia and even conquer and occupy parts of it to liberate itself from being claimed by Somalia and force Somalia to respect and recognize Somaliland.
Somaliland people must choose readiness over complacency, strength over weakness, perseverance over idleness and resilience over vulnerability. Foreign aggressions are always doomed to defeat.

Somaliland: Turbulent Demonstrations In Burao & Erigavo
Turbulent and violent demonstrations rocked the city of Burao in Togdher and the town Erigavo in Sanaag, yesterday.
The demonstrates who were mainly youngsters came out into the streets to protest the recent inter-community clashes in El-Afweine which cost the lives of at least 20 people.
The demonstration in Burao which was quickly brought under control by the Somaliland Police Forces, was confined to mainly the western sections of the city and led to minor damages to stores and other commercial locations. No one was fatality injured in the clashes, although several people were taken to hospital for treatment.
However, the clashes in Erigavo were much more serious. Although there has been no reports of any fatalities in the city, there were an exchange of gunfire between remnants of the militia led by the renegade former Somaliland officer, Caare and the Somaliland Defence Forces on the outskirts of the town.
